The GAPAC Defoliation Demonstration treatments, sponsored by supporting companies, represent established and emerging defoliation chemistries and combinations.
This year, for the first time, we welcome Nichino America, Inc. to the GAPAC Defoliation Demonstration Project.
These plots are located in production areas strategically located throughout the state. This year, four consultants have each chosen a field of high yielding cotton to use for plots.
Ratings will be made at six to eight days and again at ten to fourteen days after application. A written report will be generated for each location rating as will a final summary over all locations. We also plan to have an open house at each of the locations inviting consultants, farmers, dealers, industry representatives, extension personnel, and others.

This year, the Georgia Association of Professional Agricultural Consultants is conducting a Defoliation/Desiccation Project on cotton to give our members an evaluation of available defoliation and desiccation products. The plots are also accessible to other members of the industry including industry representative, dealer, extension personnel, etc. Our goal is to gain more information about new products and combinations for defoliation in order to make more knowledgeable decisions for the farmer. Since, this year has been another different season in terms of weather, the season has been extended in some areas. We had intended to have an early season (warm weather) application and a later season (cool weather) application, but have decided to have only one application sometime around late September. We plan to have 4 locations in Georgia hosted by a local consultant. The plots will be sprayed by Danny Bennett. The plots will be rated at 6-8 days and again at 10-14 days after application. Each location will have one replication per treatment. The plots will be 4 rows x 100 feet with a buffer row between each treatment. The plots will be rated for (1) percent defoliation, (2) percent desiccation, (3) percent green leaves, (4) boll opening, and (5) re-growth at the second rating. A written report will be generated for each location rating as will a final summary over all locations. The data will also be posted to the GAPAC website. We also plan to have an open house at each of the locations inviting consultants, farmers, dealers, industry representative, extension personnel, on others.
