The GAPAC Defoliation Demonstration treatments, sponsored by supporting companies, represent established and emerging defoliation chemistries and combinations. The project consists of results from five locations planned throughout the state, and listed below.
This year, for the first time, we welcome Valent to the GAPAC Defoliation Demonstration Project.
These plots are located in production areas strategically located throughout the state. This year, five consultants have each chosen a field of high yielding cotton to use for plots.
Ratings will be made at six to eight days after treatment and again at ten to fourteen days after treatment. Data will be collected for each treatment. The market price for each treatment will be included in the data summaries.

This year the Georgia Association of Professional Agricultural Consultants is having another Cotton Defoliation Project to give our members a hands on evaluation of cotton defoliants on the market. We would like to have our plots available for others in the cotton industry including growers, dealers, basic reps., extension personel and others. Our goal is to learn more about cotton defoliation in Georgia. There are have five locations planned across the state where we will up the same trial design on uniform high-yield potential cotton. Each location will be carefully chosen for uniformity and correct stage. Kent Taylor will rate all locations at six to eight days after application and again at ten to fourteen days after application. He will collect the following data for each treatment: 1. Percent Defoliation 2. Percent Desiccation 3. Percent Green Leaves 4. General Rating (1 to 10 scale) Boll Opening 5. Percent Regrowth Rating at 10 to 14 days Each location will consist of one replication of each treatment. We plan to have six-row plots with four rows treated one hundred ft. long, with two buffer rows between each treatment or run the plots along a field road. The location will be chosen by each consultant working with the project. We will try to chose locations that have easy access for visiting. Rainfall and temperature records will be maintained for each location. Weather permitting, we plan to start in mid September with a goal of having treatments out at all locations within a ten-day time period. Each location will have a report generated for it, which will be shared with all of the companies that enter in the test. Kent plans to summarize all locations together and generate a report to all interested parties. We will post results on the Internet at our website—georgiacropconsultants.org. We plan to have a field day at several of the locations inviting consultants, growers, dealers, industry reps., extension personnel and others.
